Who will represent Sweden at Eurovision 2026?

Yes, Sweden will participate in Eurovision Song Contest 2026

The Swedish national television SVT, who airs the contest in Sweden, commented that they have "a different judgement on the matter" than the lands who decided to boycott ESC due to Israel being allowed to participate. Sweden being known by its neutrality om different matters, this decision cannot come as a surprise.

It has to be mentioned though that this is also a great opportunity for Sweden to become the country with most wins in the history of Eurovision, as Ireland has decided not to participate in Eurovision 2026. Both Sweden and Ireland currently have 7 wins in the competition. This is though nothing that anyone mentions as the reason why Sweden did not withdraw and is a pure observation I am making.

On Saturday, January 31st, the Swedish qualifiers to Eurovision 2026 will begin. We always call it Mello but the official full name is Melodifestivalen.

The Artists are going to compete in 5 shows. Each week 2 of them will qualify directly to the grand finale and 2 will get a second chance for the last places in the finale. Lastly, in the very last competition that traditionally takes place in Stockholm, the artist representing Sweden will be chosen jointly by an international jury and public voting.

All the shows can be watched worldwide for free on the Swedish national television's streaming platform SVT Play. This year'a hosts are Gina Dirawi and Hampus Nessvold.
